La birbyn\u0117 est un instrument traditionnel qui ne se trouve qu\u2019en Lituanie. Elle est muni d’une anche simple maintenue par une cordelette bien serr\u00e9e, comme une clarinette du syst\u00e8me Oehler. Elle est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en bois d’\u00e9rable ou de cerisier, trait\u00e9 \u00e0 l’huile de lin bouillante ou \u00e0 la r\u00e9sine. Un pavillon en corne de vache est fix\u00e9 sur la partie inf\u00e9rieure de l\u2019instrument. Le mod\u00e8le le plus r\u00e9pandu compte dix trous et une cl\u00e9 de registre. La perce n’\u00e9tant ni v\u00e9ritablement cylindrique, ni v\u00e9ritablement conique, la cl\u00e9 de registre produit un surprenant intervalle d\u2019un dixi\u00e8me. Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s physiques de la birbyn\u0117 permettent donc de produire un son riche et profond proche de la voix humaine, d’une fl\u00fbte asiatique ou d’un doudouk arm\u00e9nien, la rendant tout \u00e0 fait adapt\u00e9e aux compositions contemporaines.<\/p>\n
